Information Security and Data Protection for Researchers (GDPR)

Objective

This course aims to make hospital staff aware of the need to handle personal data carefully at work. Through cases, questions and feedback, staff will learn the most important rules in order to comply with the new data privacy law.

This course belongs to a series of four courses for four target audiences at the hospital:

  • General staff members
  • Researchers
  • Health care professionals
  • Managers

Content
This course consists of five working days. Every working day, the student comes across day-to-day situations where the information security and data protection may be at risk. The student indicates how he would deal with those situations and learns about the applicable rules.

Test
The course ends with a test. If applicable, the student can do a retake.

Every day, hospital staff are dealing with privacy-sensitive information, and this needs to be done carefully. As of May 2018, the European Union’s new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into effect. This law regulates the processing of personal data by among others hospital staff. Sanctions for non-compliance with the GDPR include heavy fines and prosecution.
